[04.05.09] Sai Youth Manual - Unity of the Five Human Values in the Various Faiths

"Let the different faiths exist, let them flourish, and let the glory of God be sung in all the languages and a variety of tunes.
That should be the ideal. Respect the differences between the faiths and recognize them as valid as long as they do not extinguish the flame of unity."

- Baba

Aim:
To study another common echo of the varios faiths - the five Human Values: love, peace, truth, right-conduct and non violence and how these values UNITE the fiaths of the world.

Introduction:
Human values are eternal. They are found in every cell of the body and without them we cannot be human. But what are human values? In essence they are really divine values that remain unchanged through time. They are constant. In every era they have been promoted to a greater or lesser extent. The births of prophets, avatars and great religious souls often coincide with a call for resurgence in human values. Furthermore, human values are our link with the divine and, in developing human values, we are developing spiritually.

Quotations:
"For hatred can neer put an end to hatred. Love alone can. This is an unaltered law. People forget that their lives will end soon. For those who remember, quarrels come to an end."
- Lord Buddha, Dhammapada, page 28

"He who abandons all desires and acts free from longing, withot any sense of mineness or egoism, he attains peace."
- Bhagavad Gita, 2:54-71

"You will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free."
- The Bible, John 8:33

"Violence must be put down! Against cruelty make a stand, ye who would make sure of the reward of Good Thought through Right, to whose company the holy man belongs. His dwelling place shall be in thy house, O Ahura."
- Avesta, Yasna 48:7

Activities:
1. Create an exhibition charting the presence of Human Values in all faiths.
2. Group project: Under each value find famous people (past ans present) whos actions exhibit these values. Encourage creative presentation e.g. slides, power-point presentation, video etc.
3. Organise a Human Values poster competition within the Sathya Sai Education wing of the centre.
